Avondale Forest
The Avondale Forest is located in County Wicklow, on the west bank of the River Avonmore in the Republic of Ireland. It is a developed forest that has a museum on its premises, but it is a pleasant place nonetheless to walk around the trails. It is reflective of many Irish forests, because little native forest remains so most of the trees are a product of restoration, as a result of many years of farming on the land. There are various species of birds, along with red squirrels, badgers, hedgehogs, foxes and sometimes rabbits.
Barna Woods
The Barna Woods are located east of Barna, in County Galway in the Republic of Ireland. It contains the last remaining natural growing oaks in western Ireland. These woods are a conservation area where people can walk around its premises.
Glenariff Forest Park
The Glenariff Forest Park encompasses 2928 acres, and is located in County Antrim in Northern Ireland. There are many wooded areas, along with some small lakes and waterfalls. Lots of people come here to explore the walking trails.
Slieveanorra Forest
The Slievenorra Forest is located in northern County Antrim of Northern Ireland, close to the towns of Newtown Crommelin and Corkey. It is a conifer forest that has excellent views, and is close to the Altnahinch Dam (above).
Gosford Forest Park
The Gosford Forest Park is about 240 hectares of woodlands and parklands. It is located outside the village of Markethill in County Armagh. It was the first woodland in Northern Ireland that gained status as a conservation forest. Gosford Castle is also located within this park. It is developed with many amenities for visitors, so it is definitely a comfortable place to go.
Tollymore Forest Park
Tollymore Forest Park is located in Bryansford in Northern Ireland, which is close to the town of New Castle. It was Northern Ireland’s first state park, and is around 630 hectares. There is lots of great natural scenery around this park, as it is located at the foot of the Mourne Mountains and has beautiful views at high elevations. There are also four walking trails, and the Shimna River flows throughout the park.
